Policy brief by Kawther Ramdan, Menna Salah and Passent Moussa. Women for Justice Foundation, October 2026. Part of the She Builds Peace Egypt campaign, in partnership with ICAN, WASL and Climutopia.
In rural Egypt, climate change is not only a technical or agricultural problem. It is eroding the trust that holds communities together: between farmers and the state, between researchers and development projects, and among farmers themselves. This brief draws on two storytelling workshops held in September 2026 with 27 agricultural researchers, practitioners and civil society actors.
Their stories point to three findings: climate change multiplies existing crises; a crisis of trust is the recurring pattern; and women hold communities together, yet remain largely excluded from decisions over resources. The brief sets out recommendations under four pillars: women’s participation, social protection, recognition of community roles, and funding.
